Entwine - Review

When I first started Entwine, I was a little worried about liking it. It’s written differently but that doesn’t take away from the story. It takes a little while to get used to, but at the end of it I absolutely loved the story. I’m loving these books about finding oneself and learning to love without conditions.

Entwine is about a 22 year old girl who just started working in her field of choice, breaking up with a boyfriend she was comfortable with, to meeting a man that made her feel. Sometimes when we’re young we get confused with lust and love. It’s hard to distinguish the difference sometimes and being comfortable with someone doesn’t mean you love them. Sarah was iffy about falling in love because of what she went through with her parents. Coming home from a party to hear your father having an affair isn’t something you can get over easily and when they get divorced, the relationship with her father is strained. When she meets Malik everything changes for her. It’s like she’s woken up from the continuous motions of life to being able to live. She starts feeling emotions she didn’t think she could, but that changes when she finds out who Malik is.

Malik is a divorce attorney with a daughter named Lucy. They have this undeniable attraction toward each other and they try to fight it, but to no avail. When Sarah learns who Malik is they decide its best to take a break from each other, to figure out if they can get past the fact that Malik ex-wife is the reason Sarah’s family was torn apart. There’s so many parts of this story that are amazing, how no matter the age difference love can conquer all obstacles. Nothing worth having is ever easy, sometimes we have to fight for what we love, even if that means fighting with each other.

This book is filled with second chances, betrayal, understanding, insight, and above all love. Loving yourself to see what you want and need, loving someone despite their past, and learning to let go. Sarah and Malik’s love is beautiful and my only complaint is that I wish the Epilogue was a little longer, that or another book will be coming out alongside it soon. Take a chance on this book, you won’t regret it.

Excerpt
“Who’s that for?” A smooth male voice pulls me from my work.
I place the last white flower into the vase, and spin it, checking appearance at all angles. “This is actually for no one in particular, Sid.” I shrug to my best friend and employee.
“Come on, G,” he coaxes, using my nickname for effect.
I sigh. “I’m just puttin’ it together. They’re my flowers, so who cares why I arrange them?”
“Yes, I’m well aware who my boss is,” he deadpans. “I’ve seen you at work, and I’ve seen you work. There’s a difference.”
I glance up to him. His eyebrow is arched, daring me to deny what he’s said. His blue eyes are drilling into mine, knowing that I’m hiding something. If I hadn’t known him since grade school, I’d ignore him and tell him to mind his own business. But this is Sid, one of my best friends, who will eventually pull out my mystery flower messenger anyway. Quickly, I remind myself why I’ve hired him to begin with. I can trust him, and he’s known me for so long he knows how to help me and not be a distraction.
I blow out a slow breath of resignation as I side step him, placing the vase on the wide windowsill. “When I left my house this morning, there were four white carnations on my porch. There was no note either, so I just brought them here. And I can’t sell them - they’re not mine.”
His usually smiling mouth opens and closes like a fish sucking for air. “So you just bring stoop flowers in here?” While his eyes usually seem hooded, giving him that lazy surfer look, now his eyelids widen as his eyebrows disappear under the baseball cap that’s hiding his shaggy blonde hair, making his pastel blue eyes pop wide. The more he sputters, the more his nostrils flare. “Go wash up! There could’ve been poison on them!”
I burst out laughing. “Sid, calm your conspiracies. Who would poison carnations?” Ever since middle school, he’s always had crazy conspiracies. The teachers had a hidden agenda with pop quizzes and homework. Parents having evil plans by giving us chores, and then there was the driver’s license hoax. Thankfully we’re interrupted by the bell chimes above the door.
I work to calm my rolling hysterics, taking a deep breath, and trying to think about anything other than poisoned carnations or Sid as I walk to the front of my store. “Welcome to G-Quets. I’m Georgina, can I help you?” I ask to the back of someone’s head.
The man spins around so fast he’s a blur and wraps his arms around me, pulling me into a huge bear hug. “G-G! Is this your store?”
That voice, the familiar husky scratch.

A Message of Flowers Was a fresh take on a sweet love story! Georgina, who knows EVERYTHING about flowers, about their messages, how to put them together and that is the best reason for owning a flower shop.  Rachel Walter did so much research into this book that it made me re think the purpose of flowers.  Now back to Georgina has always had a crush or extreme like of Corbin since their were in high school.  But he moved away.  But everyone comes back home right?  Georgia works in her shop with her best friend Sid.  I love Sid, well until he gets a little weird but I tend to love the misunderstood people in books.  Sid really cares for Georgina, he's her best friend, like a brother.  Well that is what Georgina thinks anyway.  Sid might feel differently.  When Corbin comes back to town for his brothers wedding, he pays Georgina a visit at her shop. Sid isn't happy he is back.
When Georgina starts receiving flowers on her porch that give messages from sweet to warnings, she wonders who is leaving them.  She an Corbin grow closer and she and Sid farther apart.
Georgina and Corbin's story is one that stays with you.  Rachel Walter keeps you hooked into this story till the end.  You want to keep reading to see where they go, who is leaving the flowers and what do they all mean?  I found this book so refreshing that I would love to read it over and over.  I suggest you do too!
- Christina

This book has it all and is definitely a must read. This is Rachel Walter’s second book but first to the New Adult scene and she pulled it off flawlessly. It’s not the typical NA either which I loved. Yes it has sex in it, but its not overly descriptive or ‘rough’ in any way. In my opinion it’s perfect for this story. It’s a book I can continue to read over and over, in fact I’ve read it twice already.

Were first introduced to Georgina at her flower shop. Love her, she’s not the typical girl you read about. She’s not super skinny, she’s real and has insecurities like the rest of us. She has two best friends, Breeze who I absolutely adore and Sid who’s not who he pretends to be. Breeze and Georgina’s interactions are hilarious, hell Breeze is hilarious on her own and she’s obsessed with big bathrooms and hates Georgina’s tiny one. Sid, well he’s a guy that obviously has feelings for Georgina but she’s the only one that doesn’t see it. When Corbin Waylay walks into her store things start to change. Georgina is thrust back into her feelings over Corbin from high school and Sid has flipped his lid. Then the unexpected flowers start showing up on her porch each morning without a note and idea of who it could be. Who’s the admirer and what do the flowers mean to the person leaving them.

Corbin Waylay is perfection. He’s also not the typical guy we read about. He’s not smoking hot with a body to kill for but that only makes him more appealing to me. It’s one of the things I love about reading Rachel’s books, her characters are real and can be compared to real people in everyday life. You can tell Corbin has some feelings for Georgina, but he doesn’t think he’s good enough. The way they come together is absolutely beautiful. But like all romance, someone’s hiding a secret? Is it Georgina or Corbin? And what the hell is going on with Sid and his jealousy?  This book has everything you can look for in getting lost into a story. I will say this book ends HEA but you’re going to have to read it to figure out what happens!

All the Pretty Lies Blog Tour Stop

 All the Pretty Lies
“Live, no regrets”

Her…

Sloane Locke has led a sheltered life.  However, with a history like hers, she can understand why her brothers and her father want so much to protect her.  She has gone along with it for twenty long years, but those days are over.  For the girl who never makes promises, Sloane has made a pact with herself that things will change on her twenty-first birthday.  So when the clock strikes midnight, Sloane strikes out to spread her wings and break a few rules.

Him…
In addition to inking skin, Hemi Spencer possesses many talents. Controlling himself has never been one of them.  It’s never had to be.  He’s lived a life of indulgence for as long as he can remember.  Right up until tragedy struck.  Now, he’s nothing but controlled. He’s a man on a mission, one who will let nothing and no one stand in his way.

Them…
Nothing in their lives could’ve prepared Sloane and Hemi for what they’d find in each other—distraction and obsession, love and possession.  But the one thing they can’t find is a future.  Neither one has been totally honest.  And they’ll soon learn that the devil is in the details.  In the details and in the lies.

How far will two people go to live in the now when the now is all they’ve got?

*Sigh* Seriously what can I say? I mean M. Leighton is just amazing and her books are perfection. Like the most of you, I read to get lost in a story, to escape my reality for a few hours and get lost in someone else’s world. If I could set up a camp in M. Leighton’s mind, I totally would, though I say the girl MCs would throw me out in a heartbeat because I would totally be all over there guys. I’m not sure if many of you got the chance to read M. Leighton’s book, Until I Break, but if you didn’t you really missed out. That book and All the Pretty Lies are seriously my two favorite books of hers. Don’t get my wrong I love my Bad Boy Series as well as the Wild Ones, not to mention her YA books, but there’s just something about these two books that struck a cord with me. It’s the way M. takes real issues of life and runs with it, producing a work of art. Yes ART because that’s exactly what it is.

“Live every day like it’s your last. None of us are promised a tomorrow.”

In All the Pretty Lies we get introduced to Sloane first when she’s going to get a tattoo. I love tattoos so I was immediately hooked, through in a hot tattoo artist and I’m sunk. Anyways, Sloane has been protected her entire life because of something that happened when she was a child, we don’t learn what it is until a little later on, but she’s decided she’s going to actually start living life. Starting with a tattoo!! LOVE THIS, the tattoo is beautiful too and this is where we get introduced to Hemi. Hemi is the gorgeous tattoo artist that oozes sex appeal and will make you drop to your knees in front of him. Seriously, hell I would if M would point me into his direction! So being the little caterpillar that’s weaved herself a cocoon for 21 years, the butterfly bursts free and sets her eyes on the perfect specimen of man in front of her. Everyone harbors secrets, everyone tells lies, but Sloane has made it a point to never promising anything, to never want promises, because like she says, “They’re just words designed to make others feel better. But in the end, they’re still just lies. Disappointing lies.”

"She's like the blank slate I so crave for my art. I want to be etched onto her. Permanently"

Hemi has a job to do and it’s not just the one where he tattoos people’s bodies every night. Something happened to his family a few years ago and their trying to get to the bottom of it. Distraction is the last thing on his mind, it’s the last thing he needs in his complicated life. He has a goal, but his strength is put to the test when Sloane walks into his tattoo shop and into his chair. So he pushes her away until he discovers she might hold o his tattoo shop and into his chair. So he pushes her away until he discovers she might hold the key to bringing down the one thing he’s been after for years. The person responsible for the death of his brother. Can he fight the attraction to get the information he needs, or will he let his family down? Deciding to take Sloane up on her interest in the art of tattooing, Hemi gets close, and when you get too close to the sun you tend to get burned. The question is, will they both make it out alive?

“One more time, like a stubborn phoenix that refuses to stay burned to ash, hope rises."

All the Pretty Lies is centered on, in my opinion, family and what extent we would go to in order to protect them. Yes there’s romance and sex, but M. Leighton is able to weave it into the story in a way that it doesn’t overshadow the problem at hand. Sloane, though her brothers and father have protected her to the extreme, but she would do the same in return. Hemi and his brothers are doing whatever it takes to get to the bottom of what happened to their little brother even if it means betraying the trust of someone Hemi didn’t plan on having feelings for. That’s the beauty of this story. It’s the way family pulls together at time of need and doing whatever it takes to make sure they have each other’s backs. When Hemi and Sloane finally admit their true feelings it’s a bond like family. Nothing will stop them from protecting the other. This book will have you all over the place and at the edge of your seat. Be ready to fall in love with Hemi and Sloane, not to mention, wanting more at the end of this book. So go grab it if you haven’t already!

<3 Dani

All the Pretty Lies is another knock out hit by Michelle Leighton.  I did not want to stop reading! Sloane has grown up with 3 brothers and a father that are uber protective of her.  They are all cops, but you can see that sometimes they take it way too far.  I started wondering, hmmmm what is the reason for this.  And then Sloane kept telling them and her friends that she is going to live for the time.  She doesn't want to be sheltered anymore.  Her first stop on this living adventure is a trip to get a tattoo.  Here she meets Hemi.  Ok with a name like Hemi you should swoon already!! Hemi doesn't want a distraction to what he “has to do”.  I found myself going, ok dude what do you have to do?  Oh he needs to help solve who killed his brother.  You will see the details later.

Hemi does find himself extremely attracted to Sloane.  And well Sloane she really likes him.  In fact she want to get to know him beter.  This will prove harder than it seems.  When Hemi realizes the person he is looking for might be Sloane’s brother what will he do?  Also  Hemi is starting to fall for Sloane.  He doesn't want to deny himself anymore.  He vows he will tell her everything before it’s too late.  And Sloane……. what is she hiding?  When things come to a head will all the secrets and lies come to truth?  And will Hemi and Sloane come out on top?

I fell in love with these characters, as  I do with all of Michelle’s characters.  I can’t wait for the next book in this series! :)

A Graceful Mess Blog Tour Stop

Hiding behind the anguish from my past, my coyness seeps off of me like an aroma. I have felt like a stranger in my own skin, trying to claw my way out for far too long, allowing very few people to see past my façade…until my eyes met with his. I felt a sudden rush of energy all the way to my core. It jolted me in ways I never thought possible.

Never in a million years would I have expected to be in the mess I am today. It all leads back to the night Parker Porter turned my world upside down. The night his hazel eyes undressed me, peeling away the layers of the woman I tried so hard to be. He awoke desires that burned deep within me and changed me in one quick glance, leaving me vulnerable and exposed, picking up the shattered pieces of my carefully constructed life…a life I should not be living…a life I was not born into, but placed into by the state of Maine.

Parker opened a door that I am far from closing until I have answers and am able to face the life I was destined to live. I just have to decide if his love is worth the mess.

“They say be careful of the quiet ones.” –Grace

I’ve been so amazed at all the amazing books I’ve read in the last week or so. It’s like as soon as I stop reading one, I get that book hangover, and can’t imagine the next book being better than what I just read. Of course I’m blown away. All the books I’ve read are outstanding, seriously, unbelievable. So what book has me talking that way right now, A Graceful Mess by Christian Stayton.

I think the reasons behind me loving these books so much is because they deal with real issues we all face in life, this book specifically about adoption. Most of you who know me, know that on December 19, 2011 I adopted 3 boys, my little brother’s to be exact. So reading this book touches home in ways I can’t even begin to describe. So Christian Stayton, you did an amazing job with this book. Adoption is something amazing and I’m so thrilled you took it upon yourself to put it into a book.

Grace has a past like everyone does, but her past is something no one should have happen to them. Grace and her best friend Maci just graduated from college and decided to go out to celebrate, this is where she meets Parker. Now Parker has his own secrets, one in which involves Grace, but sometimes attraction and chemistry is too strong to be ignored no matter how hard you try. But the secret Parker is hiding can be the undoing of their newly found relationship. Sticking to his job, Parker tries to put distance between him and Grace, but when he’s watching her and a guy comes to hurt her, all bets are off and he’s doing whatever he can to save her. Even if it means putting his life in danger.

Sometimes the past doesn’t stay in the past and Grace’s past is coming at her full force with the intent to damage. Feelings are spilled, words are said, and ultimately the truth comes out. What happens when Grace finds out about where she came from? What happens when Parker tells Grace his secret? You know the saying, “Once it rains, it pours” well that’s exactly what happened with Grace. It’s the domino effect and it can all be traced back to a boy from her past. A boy that hurt her so much and will do whatever it takes to continue hurting her. He’s the one that unravels everyone’s secret and leaves Grace mad, sad, and confused. Betrayal is a hard thing to get over, so can she? Can she look past the secrets that were kept because they were done so to protect her?

Go pick up this book now. Trust me when I say you won’t regret it. It’s a heavy book and I love these characters so much. Grace is absolutely role model inducing. Her strength to keep going after what happened is inspiring. Parker isn’t the bad boy he seems to be, it’s all a mask to protect his gentle heart. He was burned before so that tough exterior is just that. I absolutely love Parker, he’s definitely added to the list of book boyfriends. The ending of this book has to be my favorite ending ever. Read this book and then come back and let me know what you think.

<3 Dani

A Gracefull Mess was a book that grabbed my attention and held it all the way through.
Grace was adopted but she grew up not knowing. During her life something tragic happened to her at the hands of a disturbed boyfriend. Her one constant has been her friend Maci. Maci has seen her thorough everything and wants her to get back out into the dating world. They just graduated and Grace wants to have fun before law school.

Parker, is a private investigator taking over his dad's business. He's asked to keep an eye on one Grace Clearwater. When he sees her picture in the file he is taken with her instantly! What are the chances that he meets her in a bar that same night! Their chemistry is sizzling!! I couldn't stop wanting more if them. Problem is Parker is not supposed to have a relationship with her, but love and attraction have other ideas.

When a dangerous guy from Grace's past comes in and Parker get hurt, what will Grace learn? And all the truths come flying at her! Can Parker hold on to her?

This book, had me tensing, wanting cold showers and tearing up at the sweet ending! Go get it! You won't be sorry!!

Excerpt:

"Why do you care so much?" he asked, scooting the tray to the foot of the bed and moving closer to me.
My body reacted to his close proximity. "What makes you think I care?" I said breathlessly as he inched closer.
"I think you care a lot," he said, dropping his eyes to my mouth.
I swallowed hard as his mouth hovered close to mine. "Tell me you haven't been thinking about this," he said, stroking a thumb over my bottom lip.
"Have you?" I whispered.
"Jams, I've been thinking about this longer than I can remember," he said, crushing his lips to mine. His words rang through my head, but there was no way I could make sense of them when his lips felt so good. I responded with a small moan when his tongue trailed across the same spot where his thumb had been. My pleasure filled acceptance affected him and he dragged me into his arms, deepening the kiss. A shiver rippled down my body as our tongues found each other. I gripped the hem of his shirt, wanting him closer. Hearing my unspoken plea, he settled the upper half of his body on top of mine. I gasped with pleasure, running my fingers up under his shirt. I could feel the firmness of his muscles and smoothness of his skin. It was almost my undoing when I felt him tugging at my shirt moments before his hand glided over the sensitive skin of my ribcage. My blood roared through me. His hand moved farther up to my breasts and I bowed my body, whimpering against his lips. I wanted his touch everywhere on my body.
"Jams, you're seriously killing me," he said raggedly against my lips. He pulled back slightly.
"Is that good or bad?" I asked, running my hands up his torso. My fingers trailed to the small patch of hair that disappeared down his jeans. Ever since I'd seen him in nothing but his jockey shorts the other night, I've fantasized about that small trail of hair.
"So good it almost hurts," he said, leaning in for another kiss. Before his lips could reach their destination, a beeping noise from downstairs followed by the sound of voices in the hallway interrupted us. "Really?" he asked incredulously, climbing off the bed. I couldn't help giggling. Of course something was going on. With our luck lately, I could have almost set my watch by it.
