A Risk Worth Taking Review

When 22-year-old Summer Stafford’s parents split halfway through her senior year at college, Summer’s world is rocked. Everything she thought she knew—heck, everything she thought she wanted for her own life—feels like a lie. The truth is love is a risk. And the true kind, the kind that lasts, might even be a fairy tale.

Reeling from the divorce, Summer derails her own future by breaking up with her parent-approved boyfriend and giving up her lifelong plans for a big-city career. She moves back home, business degree in hand. Dad needs her to fill the gaps her mother left behind; Summer needs to find who she is outside of the cookie-cutter life that failed so miserably for her parents.

Ford O’Neal’s future involves one person: himself. He doesn’t have a permanent address and he definitely doesn’t commit. To a place or a person. Raised by hippies, he plans just far enough ahead to secure his next stop, this one landing him at a work-study program at Heritage Plantation where he can grow his own herbal and medicinal creations.

Summer is gorgeous and smart and fun to be with, the perfect way to pass five months. It won’t be love—Ford’s got too many things to accomplish, too many places to go, before he settles down. Yet Summer pulls him in, challenging him to rethink his own philosophy.

When Ford’s five months are up, each of them must decide if love is really worth the risk.

I’ve been on a reading binge lately. Consuming book after book and though I loved every single one of them, there was just something about A Risk Worth Taking by Heather Hildenbrand, that struck a chord with me. I already feel the loss of these character’s and their story. Epic BOOK HANGOVER and I’m slightly a little lost. I honestly don’t know what to do or what book to pick up next, because in all honesty I want to reread this book, over and over again until I can recite it word for word.

“If all you had was this moment, would you still live it?” –Ford

Summer is coming home from graduating college to help take care of the farm her parents built. Divorce is hard to deal with, but I think ‘parents’ sometimes forget the impact it has on their child. Summer is angry. She’s hurt. She feels like everything she knew is a lie. When you see the world in numbers, black and white, it’s hard to get passed something like this. This completely changes her view on love, which causes her to end things with her boyfriend from college. Deciding she needs to figure out who she is and what she wants, she embarks on a new direction. First night back home a new person arrives for diner and she can’t stop the way he’s making her feel, even if she doesn’t know him.

Ford has a dream and nothing will come in the way of that dream. That is until he meets Summer and then he starts to question everything. Feel things he’s not used to feeling, but can he just do a summer fling? Ford is smart and sexy as hell. I can’t express enough how Heather Hildenbrand crafted this fineness in Ford. He’s perfect because of his flaws. He challenges Summer intellectually, and let’s be honest girls, though we might be attracted to a man’s physique, there is nothing hotter than a man’s brain. He’s not looking to settle down, he wants the freedom to accomplish his dream, but sometimes love has a way of changing things for you.
“I think the only thing that makes it true love IS the risk.”
-Cathy

I love Heather Hildenbrand, I’m never disappointed in her books and I have to say this is my favorite of hers. I couldn’t put the book down the moment I started reading it. I was sucked in from the first page, laughed, swooned, and cried. The perfect book for me. I felt the emotions as if they were my own. It’s not even just the main MCs, its all of the characters in this book. I love Casey. He reminds me of the relationship I have with my friend Cody. We didn’t grow up like Casey and Summer did, but we share the same bond. Summer’s dad Dean and her Uncle Frank (Dean’s bff and Casey’s uncle), love them. They seriously are a riot and I wish this place was real with these characters because I would be totally buying a ticket to come hang out. What I love most about this book is the development. It wasn’t instant love. I loved watching the characters fall in love.

“I had found my new dream. And I was living it.” –Ford

Here’s the thing though… Ford was only going to be around for the summer, once his internship is up he’s moving on. Living his dream the way his dad was never able to. So was it worth the risk? Did Summer let herself take the chance even though she knew the time was limited? Did Ford walk away when his time was up? What happens when you have no intention of falling in love with someone but do so anyways? What happens then? Can you just turn your back on it and hope the feeling goes away? To find out what happens with Summer and Ford, you need to pick up this book now, go ahead and do so right now, and then block out a few hours of your time to read it. Then marinate in the story afterwards, because we can all take a little something from this story.  We can all use a little risk in our lives and see if it’s worth it.

I adore Heather Hildenbrand. She was one if the first authors I followed on twitter, because I loved her Dirty Blood books. And so far I've loved any book she has written. Heather has a way of writing a book that pulls you and and holds on to you. A Risk Worth Taking is no different. What's different is the emotion and overall love in this book!!
Summer Stanford  is moving home to help her dad with the business finances. It wasn't what she was expecting. She plans everything. She broke it off with her boyfriend because she wasn't feeling it. And her parents got divorced and she didn't want to be them. Makes sense right? Well then she meets her dad's new intern..... Ford O'Neil. He's there to work and in turn he gets to work on creating natural remedies with plants.
Ford teaches Summer to live in the moment. We all need a dose of that.Summer doesn't want to fall in love or have anything defined. She's afraid of becoming her parents. Ford I there to help her see that won't happen.
Ford is not a planner, he likes to go were life takes him and doesn't want to settle before he's experienced all of life. Can they teach each other to love in the moment and plan a future? Will Ford choose to stay when his internship is up? Is love a risk they are both willing to take?
You should read and find out! This book is amazing and left me warm in some cold weather :)

Excerpt 1 (Teasers)
“Emily Jenkins, corrupting young men. What would people say?” He tutted at me and as if by magic, I spotted an elderly lady walking along the pavement, scrunching up her nose to stare at us. – Surprise Visitor (The Darkness Through the Light Series) When I thought I might make her lips too swollen from my rough need of her, I pulled away. Those half-open dark eyes could’ve pulled me into Hell, and I would’ve gladly followed with a stupid smile on my face. - Jeremy’s Heart (Saga of the Setti) Even when you know it’s the right thing to do, running away from home is never easy. They’re not good people. I can’t stay here anymore. – The Runaway-Tawni’s Story (The Dwellers Saga) He smiled and my heart melted. One look like that and I second guessed every decision I made. – Rift (The Syrenka Series) I had to entertain myself somehow, and being around these ridiculous humans made me homesick for a land I left centuries ago. – Human Resources (The Lelia Marx Novels) This too shall pass. I mentally repeated it over and over, hoping Nathaniel’s injury wasn’t as bad as my crumbling heart made it out to be. – The Sound of Love (The Kindrily Series) Perhaps the hardest thing to accept about one’s fate is that it can take years to unfold. But when it does, it’s worth every second, every breath, and every dream. – Fate (Annabelle’s Story)
Excerpt 2 (The Syrenka Series - Cold Feet)
As soon as I saw the first glimmer of sunrise, I trudged back up to the house and tried to prepare myself for the humiliation to come. Though early morning, a flurry of movement reminded me that wedding preparations were in full swing. I sighed as I took that last, heavy step up to the expansive wood deck. No amount of preparation would make this any easier. The sliding glass door slid open with a thud, and three protectors emerged carrying large vases of flowers. Troy saw me standing in the shadows and nodded in my direction. “Master Matthew. I didn’t know you were here already.” I tried to make my smile look authentic. “Couldn’t sleep.” He set the heavy arrangement down and wiped a bead of sweat from his face. “Getting cold feet yet?” he teased. My stomach flipped and I swallowed the anger in my throat. Instead of replying I forced out a laugh. This wouldn’t be easy. I was here and no one knew Eviana was gone. Who do I tell first? “Is Mistress Dumahl inside?” I asked, deciding on her mother, the leader of their clan. “Yes, in the banquet room I believe,” Troy said. I nodded to him and walked inside the house. Moving around the center island, I couldn’t help but notice the flowers and baskets and wedding decorations scattered all over the place. A lot had gone into the planning of this wedding, and a lot of people were going to be very disappointed. As I rounded the corner, I ran into a petite woman carrying a clipboard and yelling into her cell phone. “No, I said fuchsia, not pink. You better not show up here with pink bows.” She looked up with a glare before recognizing me. “I’m not arguing about this anymore. Just be here soon.” She hung up and shook her head. “I tell you, give someone a little leeway and they think they can redesign the whole wedding.” “Mistress Dumahl,” I said. “I need to…” “Please, call me Marguerite, Kain. You’re a part of this family now.” She beamed at me with a smile that perfectly matched Eviana’s. I sucked in a breath. “I wasn’t expecting you so early, but I’m glad you’re here. Perhaps you can get her out of bed?” “Eviana? But I need to talk to…” “Yes,” she said and brushed past me. “Please tell Eviana that I need her downstairs in twenty minutes.” Before she finished that sentence, her phone rang again. I heard her yelling at yet another vendor as she marched through the house. Tempted to leave, I stood there weighing the pros and cons of that decision. I could just slip away until they noticed Eviana had left and let them break the news to me. That would be easier, but that would also be cowardly.
Excerpt 3 (The Leila Marx Novels - Discovery)
The aroma of simmering bacon mixed with freshly cooked eggs filled the kitchen and tempted my stomach. Russ hustled back and forth between the table and stove as graceful as a dancer, not once breaking his stride. Much appreciated in my house, his cooking skills only added to the attractiveness. I leaned against the counter to enjoy the view. Dressed only in a pair of jeans, Russ’ bare back flexed with each little move. His muscular arms moved effortlessly and when he turned to smile at me, my heart fluttered. “Good morning, beautiful,” he said. Despite the novelty of our relationship, I predicted he was here to stay. No one had ever made me feel like this before. I smiled and walked to his side, wrapping my arms around his waist and squeezing tight. “Morning,” I replied. Lifting my head to meet his lips, another rush of emotions flooded my body. On top of my own infatuation, an overwhelming sense of happiness embraced me. Despite trying to shield myself, Russ’ feelings poured through every place our skin touched. We were both ridiculously content with each other.  I smiled, but then noticed only one plate at the table. “You’re not staying?” Russ kissed the top of my head and pushed away to finish lifting the bacon out of the sizzling pan. “No, I have to go home and then into work for a bit.” Pouting, I pulled the chair out and sat down next to the single setting. He laughed and loaded up my plate. “Don’t look so sad. I’ll be back tonight.” Rare for us to spend a night apart, I still couldn’t control the tingling in my body every time we planned to see each other. “What are you doing today?” Russ asked while rinsing the pans. “I think I’ll go check out that psychic I told you about.” He’d cooked the bacon to a perfect crisp and I savored my first bite. With a full mouth, I added, “She’s one of the last ones I haven’t met.” Russ shook his head and chuckled. My little project amused him. Knowing the special gifts I had, he accepted the idea of others like me. But he thought my efforts to prove them wrong were unnecessary. Every time I moved to a new city, I made it a point of identifying the true psychics. So far, they’ve all been fake. In a city the size of Baltimore, I expected to find at least one. Maybe the lady today would be the real deal. “Well, have fun.” Russ dried his hands and leaned across the small kitchen table to grab my face. “As far as I’m concerned, you’re the only psychic in my book.” Buy Links Amazonhttp://www.amazon.com/Furthermore-ebook/dp/B00AJ7HA5M/ref=tmm_kin_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1357445435&sr=8-8 Smashwords - https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/262444 Barnes and Noble - http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/furthermore-amber-garr/1114043797?ean=2940044190887

Can't Go Home

Usually we only do the cover and the synopsis, but this full jacket of the book is too gorgeous not to share! Plus you can read the blurb right of the back cover, so win win!

There comes a point in life when we al have to strike out on our own. Do our own thing without getting help. Can't Go Home, I absolutely fell in love with Dre. Kathryn too, but for incompletely different reasons.
Well in Angelisa Stone's debut novel,

We start off by meeting Dre in one of the most unique ways I've ever read, well at least remember reading. He's totally being a stalker and I love it. Not in that creeped out, I'm peeping in your window stalker way, just in that I'm intrigued and learning things about you way. I have to admit I would be in awe of Kathryn as well, hell I am and totally wish some of her honesty would rub off on me.

So Kathryn is beyond amazing and not to mention refreshing. I love a good heroin, a book where the girl is helping fix the guy instead of the other way around. You can feel their attraction but Kathryn doesn't play games and Dre has player written all over him. But he's persistant and doesnt let up. Eventually he gets a chance with Kathryn, but it might be more than he bargained for. When you live a life of a secrets, there bound to catch up with you, it's only a matter of time. Will Dre's secrets ruin everything he started forging with Kathryn? Can Kathryn understand and forgive him?

Not everything is what it seems and sometimes love can be enough to conquer all, give you strength when you need it, and it just might change your view of life. I'm not big on rating books, I don't think 5 stars are enough to rate any book, but this debut novel from Angelisa Stone is definitely worth 10 stars. It's filled with honesty, love, betrayal, finding oneself, and of course sex. Not raunchy sex, but sex that makes you blush reading it and makes you crave that connection with someone. That soul touching connection we all strive to find. Pick this book up if you haven't already!
<3 Dani

Can't Go Home is a book that I wish there was more of. Kathryn Howell works for a literary agent and doesn't take crap from anyone. I really loved her feisty attitude. Dre Donnelly , helps everyone, walks everywhere and wants nothing more than some time with Kathryn. He waits for her outside her work. At first you think stalkerish right? It kinda was. But he was being helpful to her. At first he wanted a one night stand with her but Dre learned there was more to Kathryn that he thought. They date and oh my that first night together, I thought I'd melt on the spot!
However, what does Kathryn know about Dre? He's not an open book. And he wants to tell her. What happens when he doesn't right away? Can Kathryn believe enough in what she feels to wait him out? And who exactly is Dre? You'll be surprised as I was. I loved who he was and what he decided to do. This book left me feeling that I wish more people tried what Dre did in their lives.
Loved this book!!! Go get it!! Love on some Dre

Cross Country Christmas Blog Tour Stop

With the holiday season upon her, Jamie Foster is once again stressed about making her yearly visit back home to Woodfalls, still single. Fate intervenes in the form of Grant Johnson, a boy she grew up with, who catches the same flight while returning home from a business trip.

When a malfunction sends their plane crashing down on the runway upon takeoff, Jamie and Grant decide to rent a car and make the nine-hundred-mile drive home together. Ironically for them, anything that can go wrong does as they face one hysterical hurdle after another.

Christmas may finally bring Jamie the gift of love she has always wanted if she and Grant can manage to overcome a few obstacles along the way. Ho-ho-ho!

It’s 10/10/13 6:25 pm and I just finished Cross Country Christmas by Tiffany King. It’s 1 of 12 Christmas novellas that will be releasing soon. Let me tell you, I could not put this book down, seriously. I had to go to the store so I made someone else drive so I could read the book. I had an interview at 3pm today and while I was waiting, I was reading the book. (Maybe that’s why I got the job!) As soon I got back into the car, I was reading, got home, and finished reading. LOVED it!  But then again it is a Tiffany King book how can I not?

Cross Country Christmas is absolutely brilliant. I was smiling, laughing, and swooning the entire book. So much so that I wrote Tiffany an email. Seriously I totally did because the novella wasn’t enough for me. I NEED more, I HAVE to have more. We all at some point have this dream of how love is supposed to be. How we are supposed to find our soul mates and have an instant connection, well sometime it doesn’t happen that way. Sometimes it takes a plane crash, a car crash, and a sprained ankle to make us realize what was always in front of us. It take a life altering moment to realize that maybe the one person who you didn’t think thought about you the same way, has been feeling the same thing the entire time.

Jamie left Woodfalls to find that all-consuming, love at first sight type of love, but after years or avoiding Woodfalls, she’s nowhere closer to that love as the day she left. Running into Grant, a guy she had a major crush on, on the way home for Christmas has turned up everything she ran away from. How does Jamie deal with it? Is Grant the same annoying person who used to tease her? There’s so many moments when you just want to yell, “Kiss her already!” and moments when you’re swooning so bad that it’s like, “damn why can’t this guy be mine!” Point is this novella is beyond amazing and will leave you wanting more. I fell in love with Grant and Jamie and I’m sure you will too! So make sure you grab this book and check out Tiffany King’s aca-awesome story in Cross Country Christmas.
<3 Dani

I love any of Tiffany King's books and Cross Country Christmas was a sweet novella that made me want more and more!
Jamie is headed home for Christmas in Woodfalls. She's a food blogger and had moved away. She moved away to get away from home. When she gets on her plane for home.... The guy she had a crush on but picked on her most of her school
Life, was on the plane and next to her. Grant is hilarious. Right here I knew the book would be interesting!! When their plane crashes on the runway and they have to drive home together, all kinds of fun happens. I don't want to say much more than, when forced together this way, only one thing can happen. And you know what they say when a guy teases you in school, and later right? Yep Grant is sweet and hot rolled in one!! Tiffany King, I want MORE!!

Jane Black has written the breakup album of the century, earning her a Grammy, a huge legion of new fans, and the pressure to repeat her success. Sure, the heartbreak from her husband’s unconventional abandonment might have been her inspiration, but it hasn’t done her any favors in the dating department. So when Matthew Harrigan, the toughest music journalist out there, asks for an interview, Jane agrees—as long as her personal life is completely off-limits.

British, gorgeous, and way too tempting, Matthew’s the first guy Jane’s been attracted to since her husband. As she spends more time with him and their relationship heats up, though, so does her writer’s block. How can the queen of the break up pen the perfect follow-up when she’s seriously in love?

There’s something magical when you start a book that you’ve been dying to read. I’ve become a huge fan of Lauren Blakely and am making my way through all of her books as quick as I can. So of course the logical thing to do when you receive an email from the fabulous KP Simmon at Ink Slinger asking you to sign up for a Lauren Blakely tour, you sign up and pray you get in! Totally got it! Totally LOVED this book. It might be my favorite from Lauren Blakely, seriously hands down. Why you ask? I’ll tell you why with the most vague answers because I don’t want to give too much away.

So we all have gone through breaks ups right? We all have those certain songs that are made for breakups, for when we are angry, happy, and in love. Not to mention the party songs, but we can lump those in with the happy songs. Jane Black was a singer/song writer that hasn’t caught a break, until now. Writing an epic breakup album that lands her in the spot she always dreamed of, but what happens after this epic album? Is she destined to only write break up ballads or can she find inspiration in something else? A reporter, Matthew Harrigan, wants to run a story on her. A behind the scenes story of Jane’s musical process. He wants in her life in every way, but is it just because of his job?

This is why I love this book so much. I’m a huge fan of music, absolutely love music, and I totally fell in love with all of these characters. They each have their own quirkiness, but come together to forge something amazing. Jane’s sister and brother are amazing. The fact that Owen, Jane’s brother, is also her producer is amazeballs! I mean how cool would it be to sit in a studio and make magic happen with your brother? Totally would love that. Then there’s Jane’s sister Natalie, love her. She always has the best interest at heart. Then there’s Ethan, love this kid, he reminds me of my munchkins.

But of course everything can’t be perfect, how else would Jane be able to make a break up album? She was married to Aidan for quite a while and well obviously things didn’t work out. Her album Crushed brought her to front and center. Now the big question… what do you write about next? Cue Matthew Harrigan. Maybe Jane just needed to feel something more than heartbreak to make her muse come alive… but does it? Matthew and Jane get close by working together on his interview, their attraction is off the charts.

“This feels so unreal, but yet here he is- wanting to kiss me. I would go into shock if I weren’t completely tingling all over.”

After so many years of not feeling wanted it's amazing to feel it. The way someone looks at you and desires you. The way you can't stop thinking about someone without getting flushed. The attraction and need are ever present with these two, there's no denying that. But what I really love about the way Lauren Blakely presented this story, is the way Jane falls in love again. How she struggles with the idea of it and when the realization hits, its too far gone for anything to change it. But it's not just on Jane's side. It's the way it all unfolds to come together. How trust is placed and tested. How every little moment leads up to a bigger one. Obviously I love this book, there's no denying that and if I gave star ratings I would totally give this book 10 stars. You have to pick this up and read it if you haven't.

I have loved a few of Lauren Blakely's books so I was excited to read Far too Tempting. Rocker, love, hotness. Rock star you say? Yep but it's not the guy, it's the girl. Jane Black is peeking her career with her new album inspired by her breakup with her husband. Good theme for a rock album right? When I first read  I was thinking, "oh messy break up". No Jane was hurt bad, but it wasn't a huge fight. Her husband told her he was gay, after they had their son and a few years together. So she took her heart break to song and succeeded.
In the music industry there are critics and the one in this book is hot and British!! Matthew Harrigan has followed Jane Blacks career from the start and wants to do a behind the scenes article on her. They are both attracted to each other. With Jane needing to write a new album how will this work?

I love the cast of characters. Janes family is awesome and her little bit is adorable. Jane faces the challenges of writing the new album and learning what it's like to be desired by a man who really truly  desires her.  Their chemistry and sex is sizzling!! Matthew is mouthwatering and I just want to hear him talk!

When they start to fall in love Jane wonders if she can still write angsty songs. Will she have to give up something she wants so bad to further her career? Or will she be able to break through?

Far too tempting was amazing and cute! I found myself saying bloody hell in a few places! :)
