Sometimes the one who broke your heart, needs the most
saving.
Piper Sandervale never thought she’d see Sasha Koval ever
again. Not since he took her heart, ripped it out and obliterated it from
existence. Now, six years have passed and she has run into him once more at the
local fairgrounds in Las Vegas. He desperately wants another chance, and he’d
do anything to get her back. She’s willing to give him a taste of his own
medicine, if this is her chance for payback. But, will she find herself way in
over her head?
Something has changed with Sasha and Piper struggles to
justify the worth of past hurts to continue her quest for atonement.
Excerpt
“I have tickets for a comedy show. How about it?” He reached
out, gripping my hand again. Glancing down at his fingers as they laced through
mine, a soft flutter in my chest made me forget to breathe momentarily. He
still had it, his paralyzing charm, I mean.
“Um, yeah. Sounds great.” I forced a smile as I sucked in a
breath. I hoped and prayed I wasn’t making a mistake. I had to remember to be
the first to run this time.
Yep, I’ll reel him in and then run out the door so fast, he
won’t even know what hit him.
So my plan to break his heart was in motion as he softly
tugged at my hand, pulling me towards the front doors of the Bellagio. Making
it to the sidewalk, he led me to the Taxi line and hailed one. I was curious
where he was taking me to, but my mouth was dry as a desert, which tasted of
lemon cherry sorbet. My self-doubt was already creeping into my mind before I’d
even had a chance to douse it.
“You alright?”
His voice pulled me back to the present as we slipped into
the back of the Taxi cab. He scooted in after me and instructed to the cabbie
our destination. Hugging my arms in the cold of the AC blasting from the vents,
Sasha slipped his arm around my shoulders and pulled me closer. Frozen, I wasn’t
sure what to do. Relax, relax, I kept telling myself. The entire plan would be
ruined if I didn’t loosen up. He might even see through my ruse if I wasn’t
careful.
That wasn’t something I could afford to let happen.
Review
So I stumbled upon Alexia Purdy when I was looking through
the Facebook page for UTopYA Con and noticed she lived here in Las Vegas. Then
when I realized she was an author, I went out and picked up all her books.
Being backlogged with reviews, beta reads, and trying to write as well as play
with my 3 kiddos, I haven’t been able to read any of the books…yet! This
Memorial Day weekend had me in a reading mood so I started picking books out of
my kindle to read and then remembered I had an ARC to read of Breathe Me. Needless to say I was so
damn excited that I dropped everything I was doing, literally, and locked
myself in the room for about 3 hours until I read the entire book. LOVED it!
Seriously LOVED it. It has me wondering if it’s going to be a series though. I
hope so because I could definitely go for some more Sasha and Piper.
So about the story, I mean that’s what a review is all about
right? Haha Ok so Piper and Sasha dated when they were in college and after a
horrible break up, they went their separate ways. Piper is now in a career,
seeming to be content with her life. Well that is until she’s at the fair with
her cousin Joss and Joss’s little girl Leah. It has to be the Ferris wheel. I
mean it couldn’t be the roller coasters right? I’m with Piper on this one. I
freak out about the Ferris wheel, not only because our shared fear of heights,
but when you get stuck at the top and you never feel like you’re going to come
down. Yeah, I pass. But this is where
Sasha re-enters her life. Oozing the same charm he had in college has Piper on
edge… and then he goes and says something that has Piper speechless.
Like everything, there’s two sides to each story. Alexia
does a wonderful job in keeping true to the characters and piecing everything
together. She gives the information just when you’re confused and has you going
‘OH!’ that’s what happened. I have to admit I love Sasha. I mean how could you
not? He’s not the same way he was in college and the view Piper has of him
isn’t completely accurate, I mean it has been 6 years, people do change. And
boy has Sasha changed. He’s willing to do whatever it takes to gain Piper’s
trust, to gain her love back… but can he?
Some unknown factors come into play, but I think they ended
up helping the situation and adding to the depth of the characters, rather than
take away from it. Feels of betrayal come into play, urgency to prevent being
taken away from Piper, and an accident that changes everyone’s life. Can Sasha
convince Piper to give him a second chance? Is Piper willing to let go of the
past to have the future she always dreamt about? Will love be enough even if
your countries apart? Breathe Me is a
beautiful read that will have your emotions all over the place. Alexia Purdy is
a new favorite author of mine.
